The campaign for the 2027 Delta State governorship election gathered significant momentum over the weekend as the Labour Party's governorship candidate, Dr Barry Avotu Johnson 1st, held a high-level strategic consultation meeting with prominent businessman, political stakeholder, and former APC governorship aspirant, Chief Uba A. Michael, at his Abuja office.

The closed-door meeting, described by sources as a far-reaching dialogue on the future of Delta State, focused on governance reforms, economic revitalization, youth development, security, infrastructure, and sustainable environmental management.

Political observers say the consultation highlights the growing influence of Dr Barry Avotu Johnson 1st within Delta's political landscape and reflects increasing interest in his development-driven vision for the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

As the Labour Party's standard-bearer, Dr Avotu Johnson has continued to champion his widely publicized governance philosophy of "GOOD, BETTER, BEST," a framework designed to transform Delta State through strategic investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, technology, security, and economic empowerment.

Sources familiar with the discussions disclosed that both leaders examined key challenges confronting Delta State, including youth unemployment, infrastructural deficits, environmental degradation, and the need for inclusive governance capable of delivering sustainable development.

Chief Uba Michael, Chairman of UBACLE Group and a respected entrepreneur from Evwreni Kingdom, reportedly emphasized the importance of peaceful civic engagement, private-sector participation, and visionary leadership in driving economic growth and attracting investment to the state.

During the meeting, Dr Barry Avotu Johnson 1st presented his comprehensive 2027 Delta Development Blueprint, which seeks to reposition the state as one of Nigeria's leading centres for innovation, investment, education, healthcare, and industrial development.

The blueprint includes:

- Free and compulsory education from Nursery through University First Degree level.

- Establishment of Digital Primary and Secondary Schools across all 25 Local Government Areas.

- Construction of 25 world-class hospitals with improved welfare packages for medical practitioners.

- Community-based security architecture supported by modern intelligence systems.

- Expansion of electricity generation and distribution to guarantee reliable power supply.

- Development of modern road networks, urban housing projects, and improved water infrastructure.

- Establishment of agricultural production hubs and industrial manufacturing centres across the state.

- Creation of creative economy initiatives, including entertainment and technology development programmes.

- Pension reform and social welfare schemes for senior citizens, women, traders, and young entrepreneurs.

Addressing issues raised during the consultation, Dr Avotu Johnson reiterated his commitment to delivering measurable results for the people of Delta State.

"Delta must move beyond promises and embrace performance-driven leadership. Our vision remains clear: GOOD leadership, BETTER governance, and ultimately the BEST Delta State for present and future generations," he stated.

Chief Uba Michael commended the Labour Party candidate for presenting what he described as a bold and people-oriented development agenda. He stressed that Delta's progress would depend on leadership capable of uniting stakeholders across political, ethnic, and economic divides.

He further reaffirmed his long-standing advocacy for environmental protection, social justice, and investment-friendly policies, noting that collaboration between government, the private sector, and civil society remains essential to achieving sustainable development.

"Delta State must embrace a governance culture that prioritizes service, accountability, peace, and prosperity above political differences," Chief Uba stated.

Political analysts believe the engagement between Dr Barry Avotu Johnson 1st and Chief Uba Michael reflects a broader trend of consultations among emerging political leaders ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.

Many observers predict that the election could represent a defining generational contest between established political structures and a new wave of younger reform-minded leaders seeking to reshape the future of Delta State.

Within political circles, the consultation is widely viewed as part of Dr Avotu Johnson's ongoing efforts to build broad-based support beyond traditional party boundaries while strengthening his message of transformational governance.

As preparations for the 2027 elections intensify, stakeholders across the state continue to monitor the growing momentum surrounding the Labour Party candidate and his "BEST Delta" agenda.

The meeting concluded with both leaders expressing optimism about the future of Delta State and agreeing that the time has come for a new era of purposeful leadership capable of moving the state from GOOD, through BETTER, to the BEST possible future.
