NIGERIANS CHALLENGED TO RISE ABOVE APATHY AS ELECTORAL REFORMS STALL

AlHassan AbdulKareem Baba Reporting Live from Abuja...

Abuja - NIGERIA

A clarion call has been made to Nigerians to rise above their collective apathy and demand the representation and integrity they deserve.

This call was made by Dr. Peter Piper, the organizer of the Electoral Reform Program titled "Setting the Agenda".

The program was aimed at setting the tone for electoral reforms, but it was snubbed by the majority of House members.

Dr. Piper attributed the apathy to the rigged elections and disregard for the will of the people, which have become the norm.

He urged Nigerians to confront the harsh truth that unless they rise above their collective apathy and passivity, those in leadership will continue to evade accountability and neglect their responsibilities.

The National Assembly has pledged its commitment to electoral reforms, but the delay in passing the Electoral Reform Bill has raised concerns about the impact on the electoral process.

Yiaga Africa and VMCII have called on the National Assembly to expedite the passage of the Electoral Reform Bill, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

Key Challenges to Electoral Reforms in Nigeria:

- Rigged elections and disregard for the will of the people

- Lack of transparency and accountability in the electoral process

- Delay in passing the Electoral Reform Bill

- Apathy and passivity among Nigerians

Way Forward:

- Nigerians must rise above their collective apathy and demand the representation and integrity they deserve

- The National Assembly must expedite the passage of the Electoral Reform Bill

- Civil society organizations must continue to advocate for transparency and accountability in the electoral process

- The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must ensure the full deployment of technology in elections

With the collective efforts of citizens, civil society organizations, and the National Assembly, Nigeria can overcome the challenges to electoral reforms and build a stronger, more democratic society.
