Police To Conduct Probe Of Senator Abe Shooting In Rivers State

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. MD Abubakar, has ordered a full-scale investigation into last Sunday’s incident in Rivers State in which the police was alleged to have shot Senator Magnus Abe with rubber bullets.
A statement by police spokesman Frank Mba said a special team of investigators from the Force Criminal Investigations Division, headed by CP Idris Umar Farouk, is to visit the scene of the incident in a bid to ensure a speedy probe of the incident.  It will interview all relevant parties, including the organizers of the event, police officers and other key witnesses in the effort to obtain a full and unbiased account.
“While promising to maintain fairness and justice to all, the IGP calls on the citizens of the state to cooperate with the investigative team, maintain calm and shun all inflammatory or presumptuous statements,” statement said. “He further urged the good people of Rivers State to continue to respect the laws of the land while going about their normal businesses.”
