Shedding light on today’s explosions, the Army stated that no amount of terror by members of the Islamist terror group, Boko Haram, would deter the country’s troops from their determination to win the war against the terror group.
In a statement issued by Its spokesman, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the army disclosed that the explosions took place at the “screening area for Eid prayer in Damaturu.” According to the statement, “there were two suicide bomb explosions today at about 7.40 a.m. in Damaturu, Yobe State today in which two female suicide bombers, one elderly woman and a ten year old girl, detonated devices at screening areas for intending Muslim worshippers at Layin Gwange, Damaturu and at ‘Phase One’ (in front of former state secretariat), Damaturu. Four persons died in the first explosion and seven people were injured.”
The military also revealed that five people “lost their lives in the second explosion and 11 wounded.”
The statement added, “Troops and security agencies responded immediately. The situation is under control. Both Yobe State Governor and the Chief of Army Staff sympathize with and urged the people to stay calm and be security conscious.
“No amount of terrorist act would deter our resolve to stamp out terrorism and insurgency,” the statement assured.
