Impatience led to applicants’ death - Minister of Interior
Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, has reacted to the craziness that
happened yesterday during the Immigration Service Test which took place
across stadiums in Nigeria. The number of people that died during the
recruitment exercise has increased from 6 to about 9. The deaths
occurred in Abuja, Lagos and Minna but instead of commiserating with
families who lost loved ones, Mr Moro said they died as a result of
their impatience...
“The applicants lost their lives due to impatience; they did not follow the laid down procedures spelt out to them before the exercise. Many of them jumped through the fences of affected centres and did not conduct themselves in an orderly manner to make the exercise a smooth one. This caused stampede and made the environment unsecured.”
He also contradicted the number of applicants that participated in the
employment test. The initial number we got was 2.3million, but the
minister says that only 520,000 participated and only 4,556 would be
recruited. 520,000 x1,000 =?
